Elias Art Metal
Forty Years ago while studying at the Parsons School of Design Constantine Elias started experimenting with creative mold-making and casting in a small storefront in NYC. His main goal was to be able to give form to some of his sculpture and design ideas. Soon after, Constantine was joined by his wife and partner, Ruth Elias, who began to promote and sell his work.
The response from the buying public was so positive that the couple decided to start Elias Artmetal with a commitment to maintain the highest possible standards of quality and design. Their idea was to offer functional 3-dimensional art castings inspired by the great historical art movements.
The process through which Evergreen Crystal is created is painstaking and labor-intensive. Evergreen’s artist, Lori Coyle, first sketches each design, then creates a template to be used as a guide for each layer of carving. Each Evergreen Crystal piece is hand-carved, one layer at a time, until the multiple-level carving achieves a depth that almost makes the vessel come alive. The number of layers on an individual piece depends upon the intricacy of the design, and it is this delicate process of multi-layering that sets Evergreen Crystal apart from lesser works.
Each piece of Evergreen Crystal is carved one layer at a time. By the time a layer is completed, its individual artwork is destroyed. The next time that design is called for, the artist must begin anew in creating the next unique vessel.
